Your first day in Cairo begins with a buffet breakfast at your hotel, followed by a visit to the Giza Pyramids area with your certified tour guide. Your guide will provide you with a wealth of knowledge about the ancient History of Egypt as you explore this magnificent site, such as the Great Pyramid of King Cheops, which stands 146 meters tall and was built during the fourth dynasty by one of ancient Egypt's greatest kings.
During your tour of the Giza Pyramids, you'll also learn about King Cheops' family, including his father, Snefru, who built four impressive pyramids, and his son, Chephren, who built the middle pyramid in Giza. You'll also have the opportunity to see the Valley Temple of King Chephren and the Great Sphinx statue, which is carved in the shape of a man-headed lion and symbolizes power and intelligence.
After exploring the Giza Pyramids, you'll head to the Saqqara Necropolis, which is 200 years older than the Giza Necropolis. Here, you'll see the Step Pyramid complex of King Djoser of the third dynasty and the Pyramid of King Teti, who ruled Egypt during the sixth dynasty. You'll also have the chance to enter one of the tombs of the nobles, such as the tomb of Kagemni, who was the vizier of Justice and the son-in-law of King Teti and see fine examples of ancient Egyptian art.
Next, you'll visit Mit Rahina, the site of the most ancient capital of Egypt, which is now an open-air museum housing artifacts from different epochs of ancient Egyptian history. Here, you'll see the alabaster sphinx of Memphis, which is the second largest sphinx in Egypt, and the gigantic statue of Ramses II, one of the most important kings of the 18th dynasty.
